If you are new to church or new to faith, this is where you start your journey to a great life with God at Valley Family Church.
#1. Your Greatest Decision: How do I follow Christ?
“You were made for greatness.
Get ready to follow Christ on this incredible adventure.”
-Jeff and Beth, Pastors, Valley Family Church
By understanding basic spiritual laws, you can know and follow Christ in a real and life transforming way. Let's look at several basic truths that will help you to follow Christ.
God Loves You
God loves you and designed you to live a great life! Do you believe it?
Jesus said, I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows). John 10:10 AMP
If this is what God wants for us, why is it so many people are not experiencing His love and the abundant life?
Sin Robs You From Experiencing God's Love
Why is it most people are not enjoying the great life He wants them to have? Sin is the issue. We are all born with a sin nature and because of our sin, we are separated from God. We are unable to have a relationship with God until we receive His forgiveness and reconciliation.
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23 NLT
God Sent Jesus To Rescue You From Sin and Its Consequences
Sin has consequences and demands justice. In other words, someone has to pay for the sin. Forgiveness must be given by the One who's been sinned against. We can’t earn God’s forgiveness by our own good deeds -- because sin demands justice, not deeds. Jesus paid the price justice demanded when He gave his life as a sacrifice for our sins on the cross. Then, God raised Him from the dead and now He extends the free gift of His forgiveness to each one of us.
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8 NLT
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 NLT
Your Response To God Is the Key
Jesus paid the price justice demanded and He gave His forgiveness and righteousness as a gift. Like any gift someone gives you, you must accept it; in the same way, we must receive this free gift of forgiveness and salvation from God. The way you respond to God and receive His gift is by saying "yes" to welcome Jesus into your heart and and committing your life to His Lordship.
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9 NLT
If you've never invited Jesus to be the Lord of your life, you can pray this prayer right now:
Jesus, I believe in You. I believe God raised You from the dead. I believe You are Lord. I now invite you to come into my life. From this day forward, I declare that Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life. Help me to get to know You and be the person You have created me to be. In Jesus Name.

Make A Public Declaration
One of the first and best things you can do as you follow Christ is to go public with your faith by being water baptized. Baptism shows others that you have been made new. Baptism is an outward act that demonstrates the inward work of Christ -- that is, your old sinful life has been washed clean because of your faith in Jesus. To learn more about what water baptism means, watch this video.
For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the
dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Romans 6:4 NLT
#2. Great Truths: What do followers believe?
"I believe in God our Father
I believe in Christ the Son
I believe in the Holy Spirit
Our God is three in one
I believe in the resurrection
That we will rise again
For I believe in the name of Jesus"
From Song, "This I Believe" - Hillsong Worship
We Believe in God, The Father
God is the creator of the world and calls us His children.
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. 1 John 3:1 NLT
We Believe in Jesus, God The Son
Jesus is fully God and fully man and is alive today in Heaven.
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." John 14:6 NLT
We Believe in God, The Holy Spirit
The power of God is alive in us through the Holy Spirit.
And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us. Corinthians 2:12 NLT
#3. God Loves Great Faith: How do I get to know God?
And this is the real and eternal life: That they know you, The one and only true God, And Jesus Christ, whom you sent.
-Jesus, John 17:3
Why is it that some people seem to flourish in their relationship with the Lord, while others seem to struggle year after year? What's the secret sauce? It's simple. Those who enjoy a real and living relationship with the Lord do the basics like these:
Read the Bible
The Bible is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs about living. God's Word is living and active and will feed and strengthen you spiritually. Read your Bible. (It's also good to hear the Bible being read to you as well as listening to faith-filled sermons from pastors and Bible teachers.)
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. Psalms 119:105 NLT
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 2 Timothy 3:16 NLT
Make Prayer Part of Your Day
Prayer is talking to God, and there’s nothing more powerful than talking to the Lord, developing your friendship with Him as well as asking for God’s help.
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6 NLT
Be A Worshipper
Jesus told us that God the Father is seeking true worshippers, those who will worship Him in spirit (from their heart) and in truth (according to His Word). Any time you give God credit for His goodness, you are worshipping Him. When you pray, give thanks, praise, sing, serve, or help others in their faith, you are worshipping God and showing your gratitude for who He is and what He's done. When you give your heart to the Lord in worship and devotion, your whole life will follow along and you will enjoy wonderful fellowship with the living God.
But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth. John 4:23-24
Attend Church Regularly
You were not designed to do the Christian life alone. In the same way that removing a burning log from a bonfire will soon cause it's fire to fade, removing yourself from church attendance and separating yourself from others who share your faith is a sure way to diminish your ability to stay "on fire" in your walk with the Lord. Make a decision to regularly attend VFC and hook up your heart up with the VFC Culture - our mission, vision, core values, and priorities.
And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25
#4. Great Friends Await You: How do I meet people?
Get in a Small Group
"We were not made to do life alone. God created us for community, and Small Groups provide a place for you to connect with others, share life, and grow in faith together."
-Chris Hodges, Pastor, Church of the Highlands
Get into one of our small groups -- what we call VGroups -- where you'll meet others in the same season of life. Life is better together. It could be easy to slip in and slip out of church each weekend without ever finding your "people." But, we were never meant to make this journey alone, so we've created VGroups. Being part of a VGroup is the best way to help a big church feel small! We have 3 types of small groups:
Season of Life VGroups
Season of Life VGroups are small groups of people drawn together by a particular season of life who meet once a month in someone's home to build personal relationships and grow spiritually. We will discuss a few questions pertinent to the weekend message, encourage and pray for one another -- and we always eat and have fun! These groups are available for students and adults of all ages, stages of life and spiritual maturity.
Support & Recovery VGroups
Support & Recovery VGroups are small groups of people who come together in someone's home to connect, grow, and heal while recovering from the challenges of life including: grief recovery, divorce recovery and more. Through a curriculum-driven lesson and small group interaction you will receive the support you need to heal and rebuild for the future.
Prayer VGroups are small groups of people who come together weekly at VFC for one hour to pray Spirit-led prayers for a variety of needs, including the people and vision of VFC and the advancement of God’s Kingdom around the world.
“Being in small groups has allowed us to develop deeper relationships with other people in our church. Leading a couples VGroup has been a great opportunity for us to help others grow in their faith and connect with other parents in the same season of life. We love all God has done in and through us through our small group!”
- Clint & Michelle Hostetler
They met day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house. Acts 5:42 NLT
